About this tool
Storage vendors use decimal units (1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes) while operating systems often display binary units (1 GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes) but label them “GB”. That's why a new “1 TB” drive appears as about 931 GB in Windows. Network speeds add a third twist: they're measured in bits per second, and there are 8 bits in a byte.
This converter shows every common unit at once so you can sanity-check cloud bills, backup plans and bandwidth quotas.
Frequently asked questions
Is 1 KB 1000 or 1024 bytes?
Officially 1000 (SI). 1024 bytes is 1 KiB (IEC). Many tools still blur them.
Mbps vs MB/s?
Divide Mbps by 8 for MB/s: 100 Mbps ≈ 12.5 MB/s.
