How to use the Image to Base64
- Choose an image.
- Copy as a data URI, a CSS rule or an <img> tag.
About this tool
A data URI embeds an image directly inside HTML or CSS, saving an extra HTTP request. It's handy for tiny icons, email signatures and single-file prototypes. The trade-off: Base64 adds about 33% to file size and embedded images can't be cached separately, so keep it for assets under a few kilobytes.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a size limit?
No hard limit, but large data URIs bloat your HTML and slow rendering.
Do email clients support data URIs?
Many block them; hosted images are more reliable in email.
