About this tool
Lorem ipsum is scrambled Latin derived from Cicero's De finibus bonorum et malorum (45 BC). Designers have used it since the 1500s because it has a natural distribution of word lengths without distracting readers with meaning — so reviewers focus on layout, not copy.
Use it during wireframing, but swap in real content before launch: placeholder text left on a live site looks unprofessional, hurts SEO, and is a common reason ad networks reject a site as “low-value content”.
Frequently asked questions
Is lorem ipsum real Latin?
Partly — it's altered and truncated Latin, so it doesn't read as sentences.
Can I use it commercially?
Yes, it's public domain.
